Study Abroad & Exchange Programs

Students pursuing a degree in Latin American Studies are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the study abroad and exchange opportunities that CLAS offers. CLAS currently administers five unique study abroad and exchange programs that allow students to classes in different institutions. These programs not only enrich the academic experience of the student; they also help build relationships with the communities and institutions we visit.

Study Abroad Programs

During the summer, CLAS takes students to study abroad in Latin America. CLAS offers an Ethnographic Field Methods course in Oaxaca, Mexico and a Mixtec and Zapotec language immersion program also in Oaxaca, Mexico. These courses are open to graduate and undergraduate students of all disciplines.

Exchange Programs

During the academic year, CLAS offers SDSU graduate students of any department the opportunity to take classes at the Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF) in Tijuana. This unique experience allows students to understand the border dynamics first-hand.

In addition, CLAS also collaborates with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) to allow graduate students to take classes at UCSD, exposing them to an even broader range of faculty and research. *Note: This program is only offered at the graduate level.
